Nothing Phone (1): Android 14 Beta is here
Last week, Nothing released the stable update to Android 14 for its phone (2). This week it’s the turn of its predecessor, the Nothing Phone (1). The company’s first smartphone came onto the market last year and an open beta version of Android 14 is now available for it too.
As with the update for the phone (2), the new firmware for the Nothing Phone (1) is called Nothing OS 2.5. It’s the most significant update since Nothing OS 2.0, which launched with the Nothing Phone (2) earlier this year.
Nothing OS 2.5, together with Android 14, brings various new functions to the Nothing Phone (1). This includes a redesigned menu for the lock screen and home screen. You can also convert your background photo into a dynamic wallpaper and use new monochrome wallpapers. A new monochrome color theme and a customizable gesture by double-pressing the power button are also available. There are also more lock screen shortcut options and a faster way to take screenshots along with a new screenshot editor.
Nothing OS 2.5 also brings new widgets and a new glyph animation for using NFC. There’s a new arrow design for the back gesture and a new layout for Quick Settings. However, the ability to adjust the volume of the ringtone and notification sound separately could prove to be the most important new change for many users. There are also stability improvements for the camera. And “enhanced overall system stability for a more reliable and smooth experience”.
If you want to take part in the beta for the Nothing Phone (1), you can follow the source link and then register. Afterwards you can download an APK file and then update under Settings > System > Update to Beta Version. However, it is still beta software and should not be installed on your primary cell phone if possible.
