Honor Magic6 camera: Variable aperture and 160 MP periscope tele
The latest leak on the upcoming Honor Magic6 series brings new details about the three main cameras on the back and some interesting details about the front camera. According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Honor Magic6 will have an OV50H and an OV50K sensor. There is also a 160 megapixel telephoto camera with a periscope lens.
The OV50H is a 1/1.3 inch sensor, while the OV50K is either 1 inch or 1/1.3 inch in size. In any case, the OV50K features LOFIC technology – CMOS based on a lateral overflow integration capacitor. Basically it is a stacked sensor with pixels arranged one on top of the other like in the Sony Xperia 1 V and OnePlus Open / Oppo Find N3.
The main camera (OV50H or OV50K) of the Honor Magic6 series will have a variable aperture lens. This allows the lens to adjust the amount of light that hits the sensor. This gives you sharper images in good light (landscape, macro) and brighter and less noisy images in low light.
Three Honor Magic6 flagships including a Porsche Design model
According to a second leak, there will be three new Honor smartphones, probably a basic, a Pro and an Ultimate variant. The Honor Magic6 Lite has already been released. There’s also a Porsche Design model in the works, which may or may not replace the Ultimate version. All Magic6 smartphones will have two selfie cameras in an oval cutout. These are said to have a “medium size”, “large size” and “extra large size”, with the first two featuring a circular camera island.
The largest model will have a camera module similar to the Honor Magic5 Ultimate. This could be the Porsche Design variant. Porsche Design is a design studio founded by the same person who designed the first Porsche 911 sports car in the 60s. In mobile phones, the company developed several BlackBerry smartphones before collaborating with Huawei for over seven years.
If the rumor is true, Honor will take another step towards emerging from Huawei’s shadow. The company is already the leading smartphone manufacturer in China and is now taking over the partnership with Porsche Design from its previous owner.
