Apple is taking its time developing iOS 18. A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman today suggested that the Apple iPhone 16 series, which will debut iOS 18, will launch next year with exclusive generative AI features. The new AI functions should become the most important selling points for the new iPhones.

The new report does not reveal any details about what these AI functions are supposed to do or how great the potential is. But we can assume that they are similar to what Google, Samsung and OpenAI are currently doing with Bard, Bixby and ChatGPT. This includes, among other things, text-to-image generation as well as the ability to summarize documents and translate content. Apple is also rumored to be using its own LLM model to revamp its current digital assistant, Siri.

The Apple iPhone 16 series is not expected to bring any major hardware changes. Instead, Apple will try to highlight the new AI features as key selling points for its upcoming smartphones. Apart from that, the iPhone 16 series is expected to rely on the Apple A18 chipset in all four models. The current generation separates iPhone 15 (Apple A16 Bionic in 4nm) and iPhone 15 Pro (Apple A17 Pro in 3nm).

The Pro devices should also have a new capture button, located on the right side next to the power button. Other leaks suggest a smaller Dynamic Island and a 5x optical zoom camera on the iPhone 16 Pro.
