First Google Pixel Watch gets Wear OS 4 update
The new Wear OS 4 ran right from the start on the just introduced Google Pixel Watch 2. Now it’s finally time for the predecessor to join the Wear OS 4 party. Starting today, Google is shipping the new firmware to the original Pixel Watch from last year, which was previously running Wear OS 3.5.
As is usual with Google software updates, the rollout comes in waves. Therefore, it may take weeks for all available devices to display the new firmware and start to update. The new build number for all Google Pixel Watches worldwide is TWD4.2301005.002.
Google has launched Wear OS 4 with various new features. The new platform offers support for transferring a smartwatch to a new phone without the need for a factory reset. Conversely, the new backup and restore features help to safely back up personal data and settings to a Google Pixel Watch and restore them to a new one. This means you can change your wearable without having a new smartphone in the boat.
There’s also a new Google Calendar app and a new text-to-speech engine for more reliable TalkBack functionality. Google has also revamped notifications with smart link detection of phone numbers as well as addresses and embedded media previews. Finally, there are several new security features: a security check, emergency clearance and emergency information directly on the Pixel Watch.
