Tecno Phantom V Flip with a round 1.32 inch display unveiled
Tecno has just introduced the Phantom V Flip – the company’s first flip folding smartphone. It features a circular external OLED display with a ring around it that houses two cameras and an LED flash. When opened, the 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED main display unfolds.
The Tecno Phantom V Flip is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset with an octa-core CPU that reaches up to 3.0GHz. There are also 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. You can add another 8 GB of virtual RAM using the Extended Memory function.
The 22:9 foldable panel supports a 120 Hz refresh rate and reaches 1,000 nits of brightness. The 1.32 inch external display offers several widgets. You can read notifications as well as activate a viewfinder for selfies with the more powerful main cameras. These include a 64 megapixel wide camera with a 1/1.73 inch sensor, an f/1.7 lens and PDAF. There is also a 13 megapixel ultra-wide cam with autofocus on board. The selfie camera inside sits in a punch-hole and has a 32 megapixel sensor.
When unfolded, the Tecno Phantom V Flip is 171 mm high and less than 7 mm thick. Nevertheless, Tecno has included a 4,000 mAh battery, which is not a given for a flip phone. The V Flip supports wired charging with 45 watts and the matching charger is part of the scope of delivery. According to Tecno, 15 minutes of charging time is enough for 50% battery capacity. The V Flip also features a custom personal assistant called EllaGPT. Ella offers “intelligent features” and is Tecno’s answer to the Google Assistant, Siri, Bixby or Celia.
Tecno offers the Phantom V Flip in two colors – black and purple. The price is INR 49,999, which is around €555/$605. In Europe the price is said to be 700 euros, although in other regions there are supposedly early bird promotions for the equivalent of 650 US dollars.
