Google Pixel Drop with Gemini for Wear OS is here
Google today announced a surprise Pixel Drop, formerly known as the Pixel Feature Drop. These typically appear every three months, so the next one wasn’t supposed to arrive until September. That’s why Google is calling it a Surprise Feature Drop. Owners of the Google Pixel 9 Pro (and presumably also the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold) will receive a free Google AI Pro subscription for one year with the update. This also includes access to Veo 3, Google’s AI video creation tool.
The Google Pixel Drop also brings the AI Mode in Circle to Search. This allows you to access the advanced reasoning of AI Mode to explore complex topics and deepen your initial searches with follow-up questions without having to switch apps. This works automatically when Google’s systems consider an AI answer to be particularly helpful. If so, an AI overview will appear in your results. Tap “Dive deeper with AI mode” to ask more questions and discover relevant content on the web.
AI mode is now available with Pixel Drop via Lens in the Google app for Android and iOS. However, there is one major limitation— So far, the AI mode in Circle to Search and Lens is only available in the USA and India.
Starting today, Circle to Search also supports you in games and gives you tips when you get stuck. You’ll even get video suggestions to help you navigate the game. The feature is available starting today in countries where AI overviews are available. Speaking of AI overviews: The new Google Pixel Drop is designed to make the answers easier to read, break down important information, and integrate more visual elements directly.
Google Pixel Drop brings Gemini to Wear OS smartwatches
Finally, with the update, Gemini is available on Wear OS smartwatches from Google, Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. It replaces the Google Assistant and uses the same advanced AI models as your smartphone. With Gemini on Wear OS, you can also talk. The AI understands your speech patterns and, according to Google, provides quick and precise answers right on your wrist.
The app also works across multiple apps: You can send messages, create playlists, summarize emails, add calendar entries, and navigate. To do so, simply activate the Actions feature in other Google apps like Gmail and Calendar on your paired smartphone. Gemini can also remember details you want to share with it. The rollout will take place in the coming weeks for Wear OS watches running Wear OS 4 and later.
