After some recent speculation that the foldable Apple iPhone Ultra might instead be released under the name “iPhone Duo,” the rumor appears to be coming true, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. For months, the foldable iPhone has also been referred to internally as the iPhone Ultra, but Apple is apparently taking a different approach for the official name, emphasizing the device’s dual-screen functionality.

Apple iPhone Ultra / iPhone Duo Prices and Storage

According to Gurman, the Apple iPhone Ultra/iPhone Duo with 256GB of storage will be available starting at $2,000 and will cost a maximum of approximately $3,000. Previous rumors had suggested a starting price of over $2,000, possibly even up to $2,500. A starting price of $2,000 could therefore boost customer demand.

The entry-level version will come with 256 gigabytes of storage. Apple also offers higher-capacity versions, which will cost up to $3,000. Due to the recent storage shortage, Apple has significantly exceeded its cost targets and is therefore absorbing some of the expenses to keep the starting price at $2,000. The additional costs will be passed on to customers who choose larger storage capacities.

Further details about the Apple iPhone Ultra / iPhone Duo in Gurman’s report include the use of a new A20 Pro chip, Apple’s C2 modem, two 48-megapixel rear cameras, a 12-megapixel front camera, and a magnetic hinge system.

Color options

Previous rumors suggested that Apple would forgo eye-catching colors for its first foldable iPhone. The darker color was described as indigo, not black. Gurman’s last-minute report confirms this assumption, stating that the iPhone Duo will be available in white and dark blue.

Apple Pencil

Furthermore, the Apple phone is expected to be equipped with support for the Apple Pencil. Gurman had previously claimed that Apple had developed a prototype of a special Apple Pencil for the foldable iPhone, which would be “more compact than the versions for iPads” and could “magnetically attach to the side of the device and be charged.” However, he considered it unlikely that the accessory would ever be released.

Gurman’s latest report only mentions “support for the Apple Pencil stylus” for the iPhone Duo, so it seems the company has opted for a different approach.

Regarding availability, the Apple iPhone Ultra/iPhone Duo is reportedly going to be available in white and dark blue and is expected to hit stores as early as October. Rumors have long suggested that the Apple iPhone Ultra/iPhone Duo might be released later than the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max due to production issues, although Gurman had previously emphasized that the time gap between launches would be minimal.
