iOS 27 Beta 4: Apple iPhone Ultra and new Siri features
Apple has released the developer beta, iOS 27 Beta 4. There are fewer changes than in previous betas, but Apple continues to add new features before the official release in September.
iOS 27 Beta 4 TV App
In the Apple TV app settings, there’s a new option for automatic downloads. Enabling this will automatically download the next two episodes of shows you start watching under “Continue Watching.” These downloads will be deleted after you’ve finished watching them.
Photos
In the Photos app settings of iOS 27 Beta 4, there is an option called “Enlarge photos to fit screen.” This slightly enlarges photos whose aspect ratio closely matches the screen and is enabled by default.
Wallpaper
Apple has removed the wallpaper feature, which was added in beta 3 of the Notification Center, in iOS 27 beta 4. Previously, swiping through the notification center displayed a portion of the wallpaper on the home screen; this feature is no longer available.
Siri voices
The user interface for selecting Siri voices has been redesigned. On devices without the ability to set a custom voice, the custom voices view is now displayed, offering selectable voices and accents. Devices with custom Siri settings will have additional voice options available, which Apple says will be released soon.
The customizable voice for Siri is currently limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air.
Siri settings
In the Siri settings of iOS 27 Beta 4, there is a new option to adjust the length of Siri previews. You can select up to five lines or none.
In the “Accessibility” menu, there is a new option called “Always Show Request” which displays a transcript of what you say to Siri on the screen.
Siri Search or Ask Siri
When you swipe down to access the Siri search or question interface, you will now see a welcome screen explaining this.
ProRes log format
In the app’s camera settings, you’ll find the option to select the ProRes Log format, provided Apple ProRes is enabled. To do this, tap “ProRes Log Video Encoding” and select “Log” or “Log 2”.
Log 2 is the latest format and stores more information in the file, allowing for additional flexibility in color editing and making adjustments after video recording.
Wi-Fi support
There is an option to enable or disable connection support for each Wi-Fi network, regardless of whether the main connection support switch is turned on.
AirPods
Apple has changed the appearance of the AirPods options in the Control Center, adding further options for adaptive mode, among other things.
Dual-battery Apple iPhone Ultra
The code of iOS 27 Beta 4 refers to an iPhone with two batteries, with text passages such as “The batteries in this iPhone are functioning as expected.”
This could be a hint at the foldable Apple iPhone Ultra, which is expected to feature a dual-battery design.
