New renderings of the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VIII have surfaced online, giving us the best look at the device yet. According to MyMobiles this is the final design, and the source assures that the renderings are based on the same CAD data used by Sony suppliers.

The Sony Xperia 1 VIII images show a familiar design with a tall, narrow-looking display, in whose upper bezel the front camera is integrated next to the earpiece. Previous renderings suggested that a punch-hole display might be used, but this does not appear to be the case.

Sony Xperia 1 VIII remains at 6.5 inches

The new images suggest that the frame width will remain unchanged compared to the Xperia 1 VII, and the new smartphone is expected to retain its 6.5-inch OLED display. According to the latest leak, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is also here so stay. It can be seen in the image above right.

Based on leaked dimensions, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII measures 161.9 x 74.4 x 8.58 mm. It is similar to its predecessor, but slightly wider and thicker. The new square camera unit contributes to the overall thickness of the smartphone, which is said to reach 11.37 mm at its thickest point – just over 2 mm more than the Xperia 1 VII.

According to previous rumors, Sony is using this new design to accommodate larger sensors than in the Xperia 1 VII, including a new telephoto sensor ranging in size from 1/3″ to 1/2″. It is also rumored that the Xperia smartphone will be launched in May and be available from June, just like last year’s model.
