vivo patented vertically rollable smartphone
In recent years, there have been repeated concepts for rollable smartphones, including models from Lenovo, Tecno and Samsung. However, an actual product with a rollable display has not yet been released, even though there are already Notebooks with a rollable screen.
While previous concepts for rollable smartphones all roll out the display sideways, vivo has just patented something completely different – a rollable display that gets longer and not wider.
vivo Rollable gets taller, not wider
The rollable device from vivo, depicted in the patent application, rises higher when the screen is unrolled, which is certainly interesting to watch. However, we wonder what practical applications such a device could have.
Apps are already well optimized for tall screens these days, so the question arises as to what added value even more vertical space would offer. However, this is currently only a patent application and not even a concept.
