In his newsletter “Power On” today, renowned Apple journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg confirmed that Tesla plans to introduce Apple CarPlay support in its vehicles “in the coming months.” This would be by far the biggest news for the regular version of CarPlay in years, assuming Tesla actually offers the system in its vehicles.

As Gurman noted, this would be a surprising about-face for Tesla and CEO Elon Musk, who have long ignored customer demand for CarPlay. We’ll see what ultimately happens. Musk could change his mind at any time.

According to Gurman, Tesla plans to offer the regular, wireless version of Apple CarPlay instead of the more advanced CarPlay Ultra system. CarPlay would appear in a window within Tesla’s broader software interface, he said.
