Apple introduces iPhone Pocket, a limited-edition iPod sock

Apple has partnered with Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE to launch the iPhone Pocket, a limited-edition 3D-knitted accessory designed to carry an iPhone, AirPods, and other everyday essentials.

The accessory resembles a stretchy pouch, similar to an iPod sock, but extends into a strap made of ribbed, elastic fabric. This strap completely encloses the iPhone, while its open structure allows a view of the display. Yoshiyuki Miyamae, Chief Design Officer of ISSEY MIYAKE, explained that the inspiration came from the concept of a “piece of fabric.” He described it as an expression of the joy of wearing the iPhone in a personal way. Incidentally, the brand’s founder also designed Steve Jobs’ iconic black turtleneck sweater, in case you were wondering.

The iPhone Pocket is available in two versions. There’s a short-strap version in eight colors for $149.95 (€130) and a long-strap version in three colors for $229.95 (€199). The short strap is available in lemon, tangerine, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black, while the long strap comes in sapphire, cinnamon, and black. Both lengths fit all iPhone models.
iPhone Pocket compatible with all models
Apple states that the color palette was designed to be compatible with all iPhone models and that the iPhone Pocket can be carried in various ways – held in the hand, attached to bags, or worn directly on the body.
“Apple and ISSEY MIYAKE share a design approach that prioritizes craftsmanship, simplicity, and aesthetics. […] This clever accessory embodies these ideas and is the perfect complement to our products. The iPhone Pocket’s color palette was intentionally designed to coordinate with all our iPhone models and colors, allowing users to create their own personalized combination. Its distinctive shape offers an elegant new way to carry iPhones, AirPods, and other favorite everyday items.”
Molly Anderson, Apple Vice President of Industrial Design
The limited-edition iPhone Pocket will be available starting November 14th in the Apple Online Store in France, China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the US. It can also be purchased at 10 Apple flagship stores worldwide, including Apple Regent Street in London, Apple SoHo in New York, and Apple Ginza in Tokyo.
