Microsoft rolls out 2025 update for Windows 11
Microsoft has announced the launch of the 2025 Update for Windows 11. This is the annual feature update for Microsoft’s latest operating system (the company previously released two updates per year, but has reduced this to just one for several years).
According to Microsoft, the update will be delivered using the “servicing technology” that is also used for monthly updates. Availability begins today via a “controlled feature rollout” for PC systems and notebooks running Windows 11 version 24H2, initially only for those who have enabled the “Get the latest updates as they become available” switch.
Microsoft is proceeding cautiously with the rollout due to its history of issues. The company states that if there are issues with apps or drivers, it will initiate a security lockdown and only offer the update once the issue is resolved.
The scope of the rollout will be expanded “over the next few months.” So this is definitely not something you’ll read about today and be sure to get within a few days. Microsoft says the new version of Windows 11 comes with “the latest features, security improvements,” and gives you “control,” without being more specific.
