vivo Y500 unveiled with massive 8,200 mAh battery
The Y-series devices are vivo’s bestsellers in China, and the brand-new vivo Y500 joins the family today. The smartphone continues the trend of Chinese mid-range devices with enormous battery capacity and features a massive 8,200 mAh battery. But that’s not the only new feature: The phone now has IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance and has also received a chipset upgrade to the Dimensity 7300 processor.
The vivo Y500 is also said to impress in terms of durability. It can withstand immersion in water up to 1.5 meters deep for over 24 hours, pressurized water jets, and heat up to 80°C. It also features vivo’s 360-degree drop protection design with internal shock absorbers and Diamond Shield glass protection for the 6.77-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.
vivo Y500: 8,200 mAh battery with 90-watt charging
The 8,200 mAh silicon-carbon battery in the Y500 has an energy density of 847 Wh/l. According to vivo, this is enough for over 18.4 hours of continuous use, but after that, it can be recharged quite quickly with 90-watt wired charging. A 24-stage charging protection against excessive currents, voltage errors, and temperature deviations ensures sufficient safety.
The camera department, on the other hand, offers more of the standard fare – there’s a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. An 8-megapixel front camera is integrated into the punch-hole cutout on the front. The phone runs OriginOS 5 based on Android 15.
The vivo Y500 is available in Glacier Blue, Dragon Crystal Powder, and Black. The 8/128 GB version costs 1,399 CNY (168 €/196 $), while the top-of-the-line 12/512 GB version costs 1,999 CNY (239 €/280 $). Sales in China are scheduled for September 5th. It remains to be seen if and when the Y500 will be available worldwide.
