Apple Mac mini M4 (2024) with new design and chipset is here
The “Week of Mac” announcements started yesterday with the iMac 24″ M4 and today the big brother was followed by the new Apple Mac mini M4. It is the direct successor to last year’s Mac mini M2 (2023) and is configurable with the brand new Apple M4 and M4 Pro chipset and up to 64 GB of storage.
The new Apple Mac mini M4 (2024) features a revised “ultra-compact design” that follows in the footsteps of the Mac Studio. At just 12.7 cm (5 inches) per side, it takes up a much smaller footprint. At 5 cm, it is slightly taller than its predecessor, the Mac mini M2, but weighs only 670 grams in the regular and 730 grams in the M4 Pro version.
As you can see above, there are two USB-C ports and a headphone jack on the front. The back is shared by three Thunderbolt ports (Thunderbolt 4 on the Mac mini M4 model, Thunderbolt 5 on the M4 Pro), an HDMI port, the power cable and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The latter can be upgraded to 10 GB/s if required by investing €115 / $100 more. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are also on board.
As the name suggests, the new Apple Mac mini M4 (2024) has the M4 chip installed. If that’s not enough for you, you can switch to the more powerful M4 Pro. The M4 Pro is available in two configurations – with a 12-core CPU and a 16-core GPU in the basic version and a 14-core CPU and a 20-core GPU in the high-end version, which corresponds to an upgrade of €230 / $200. The standard M4 chip offers 10 CPU and GPU cores each.
There is also up to 64 GB RAM and up to 8 TB storage. However, the largest expansion levels are only available in the M4 Pro version. The operating system used is macOS Sequoia with Apple Intelligence.
Apple Mac mini M4 (2024) prices
The new Apple Mac mini M4 (2024) starts at €699 / $599 for the M4 version with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage and can already be pre-ordered from Apple. 16/512 GB costs €929 / $799 and 24/512 GB costs €1,159 / $999. The Mac mini M4 Pro starts at €1,648 / $1,399 and the basic version has 24 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. Official sales start on November 8th.
