Google Pixel 9a: Tensor G4 chipset but worse modem
Google has just launched the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. All models are powered by the same Tensor G4 chipset. The only smartphone that is still missing from the series is the upcoming Google Pixel 9a. The cheapest option in the series is now rumored to be launched between March and May next year.
The Google Pixel 9a will also get the Tensor G4 chipset, according to a new report, but the Americans want to save money elsewhere. The data connections will be handled by an Exynos 5300 modem instead of the new 5400 model. The latter runs in the other Pixel 9 phones, and is cooler and more efficient.
This means that there is no satellite connectivity for the Google Pixel 9a. In addition, it could also mean that the network performance in general cannot keep up with the performance of the other Pixel 9 models with their newer modem. That seems to be the price you have to pay for the cheap Google phone.
The rumor about the old modem has already appeared in the rumor mill. So it now seems even more likely that the information is true. However, there is another point to note. While the Tensor G4 chipset is the same, the plastic casing is different, which is a bit thicker. In addition, the last leak from August showed a flat camera module.
