Oppo Find X8 series gets capture button like the iPhone 16

The Oppo Find X8 series gets a quick button for the cameras, similar to Sony smartphones and the Apple iPhone 16.

The iPhone 16 series hasn’t even been officially unveiled yet, let alone launched, and yet the first copycats are already hard at work. This includes Oppo, which is apparently currently working hard to copy one of the most distinctive features of the new iPhones. At least, that’s what you could say if Sony smartphones hadn’t come out with capture buttons years ago. Accordingly, first Apple copied Sony and now the Oppo Find X8 series is copying both.

In the Oppo Find X8 series, the button is apparently called the Quick Button. But looking at the position, it quickly becomes clear that the main focus is on operating the cameras. However, according to a machine translation of a leaked slide describing the button’s functions, it will also be used in games.

When using the Oppo phone’s camera, you can swipe your finger across the button to zoom. This basically confirms that it’s not a “real” button. Instead, the phone has a capacitive button coupled to a vibration motor. The latter could be the normal vibration motor or a second, separate motor just for this button. However, the button is not visible in the first spyshot of the Oppo Find X8 (top right image). So it may be reserved for the X8 Pro or the Ultra.

According to the tip, the slide gesture also works in gallery apps. There you can zoom in and out of the photo displayed. You can probably also press a little to fix the focus if you want to take pictures and then press harder to take a photo. By default, it looks like you press to take a photo and long press to record a video. But hopefully the Oppo Find X8 series will offer even more options.
