Huawei Mate 70 series: First images reveal design
The Huawei Mate 70 series is set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024, Huawei CEO Yu Chengdong confirmed. The closer we get to the release, the more leaks and rumors appear online. The latest leak now offers an exciting preview of Huawei’s next business flagships in the Mate 70 series. This series appears to include three main models: the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro and Mate 70 Pro+. There will most likely be a high-end model, the Mate 70 RS Ultimate. The latter could also remain limited to the Chinese market.
The leak reveals two types of camera modules for new Huawei phones, both more or less circular. The relationship with the Mate 60 series, with the octagonal camera module likely to belong to the Mate 70 RS Ultimate. This is where the most technology is likely to be in the module – lenses, sensors, laser autofocus and of course an LED flash. An improved zoom thanks to at least a periscope telephoto, better low-light photography thanks to Huawei’s variable aperture technology and plenty of AI technology are also a safe bet.

- Mate 70 RS Ultimate: top model with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, price 10,999 CNY (€1,395/$1,536).
If the leaks are correct, the Huawei Mate 70 series is, on paper, a serious new player in the premium smartphone market. The Mate 70 RS Ultimate in particular meets the highest standards in the style of an Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max or a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
On the one hand, Huawei must first clarify the question of international availability. On the other hand, the in-house operating system HarmonyOS will, as usual, deter many potential buyers. The latter does not apply to the Chinese home market, by the way. Here, HarmonyOS has not only prevailed, but is slowly but surely approaching the 1 billion installation mark.
