Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold: Bigger, slimmer and new hinge
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is here and it’s significantly more advanced than the first-generation Pixel Fold. Google has completely redesigned the design, making it both taller and slimmer. The second-generation foldable Pixel has a square shape with a height difference of about 15.5 mm compared to the Pixel Fold, even surpassing Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 in this respect. Google also unveiled the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, and Pixel Watch 3.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 10.5 mm when folded and just 5.1 mm when unfolded. At the same time, the weight has dropped to 257 grams. Another notable design change concerns the hinge, which can now be folded out completely flat, unlike the first Fold. In addition, the new Fold is IPX8 protected against water ingress.
Thanks to the new proportions, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold offers larger displays with a 6.3-inch cover display and a square 8-inch folding screen. Both are OLEDs with FHD+ resolution, have adaptive refresh rates of 120 Hz and reach a peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits. The two panels also share the same 10 MP selfie cameras.
On the back, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold relies on a slightly more powerful camera setup compared to its predecessor. There’s a 48 MP main camera alongside a 10.5 MP telephoto lens (5x optical zoom) and an updated 12 MP ultra-wide angle. It’s powered by Google’s new Tensor G4 chipset. The 4 Nm chip has a Cortex-X4 prime core at 3.1 GHz, three Cortex-A720 at 2.6 GHz and four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.95 GHz. There’s also up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.
Like the Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL you’re still looking at Android 14, but with all the new Google AI features. This includes Gemini Nano on the device, Pixel Screenshots and an improved Magic Editor. The Add Me feature lets you add people to photos.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold also gets seven years of software updates. The 4,650 mAh battery should last 24 hours with normal use, but only charges at a slow 21 watts.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes in two colors – Porcelain and Obsidian. You pay €1,899/$1,799/£1,749 for the 256GB version and €2,029/$1,919/£1,869 for the 512GB variant. Google is offering free storage upgrades for orders placed between now and September 5th. Actual delivery begins on September 4th.
