Motorola Edge 50 will be the thinnest MIL-STD-810H smartphone

While there are already three Motorola Edge 50 variants, there is no standard model in sight yet. That changes next week as Motorola India and Flipkart will unveil the Motorola Edge 50. The phone will launch on August 1 (next Thursday) and will be available on Motorola’s own online store, Flipkart and leading retailers in the country. Flipkart’s landing page already gives away pretty much all the specs.

The front of the Motorola Edge 50 consists of a curved 6.67-inch P-OLED display. The resolution is listed as “1.5K”, presumably the same or very close to the 1,220 x 2,712 pixels of the Edge 50 Fusion. It’s a 10-bit panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage and a maximum brightness of 1,900 nits. There’s also a fingerprint reader built in.

The smartphone has a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset under the hood, a little weaker than the 7s Gen 2 in the Edge 50 Fusion. The 7 Gen 1 was most recently used in the foldable Razr 40. The chipset is paired with 256 GB of storage and a vapor chamber for cooling. Motorola promises 3 years of operating system updates for the Edge 50 and four years of security patches.

The 5,000 mAh battery supports both wired fast charging with 68 watts and wireless charging with 15 watts. This is an improvement over the Fusion, which does not support wireless charging. And that’s not the only upgrade.
The Sony Lytia 700C main camera has a resolution of 50 megapixels on a 1/1.56 inch sensor and also powers the Fusion. There is also a 10 megapixel telephoto camera with “30x zoom”. The normal optical zoom is likely to be a factor of three. There’s also a 13-megapixel 120-degree ultra-wide-angle camera that can apparently take macro shots. Finally, there’s a 32-megapixel selfie camera on board.
Motorola calls the Edge 50 the “world’s slimmest MIL-STD-810H-certified military phone,” but doesn’t reveal any specific stats. Motorola tested it for drops, vibrations, extreme temperatures (both high and low), and salt spray. It also has a IP68 certification and a metal frame (no information on the glass yet). The Motorola Edge 50 is available in three colors. Two have a vegan leather back (Jungle Green and Pantone Peach Fuzz) and one uses vegan suede (Koala Gray).
