In the run-up to Google’s big hardware launch event on August 13, new leaks about the Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL are coming in practically every day. On the menu today: two new images of the standard Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL, as well as a video of the XL compared to the Pixel 8 Pro.

Four new smartphones are expected to launch on August 13: the Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 Pro is not the successor to the Pixel 8 Pro, at least not in size. Instead, it’s the same size as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9, but with the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s premium hardware under the hood. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the successor to the original Pixel Fold from last year.

The recently leaked prices of the new Google phones are similarly confusing at first glance. Some versions will be priced the same as their predecessors, but there will also be price increases for some variants.

The new renders don’t really show us anything new. The Google Pixel 9, as we already knew, will have one less camera than the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The new smartphones also feature a revised design in the area of the camera module on the back. The cameras themselves were already part of a major leak last week. All of these phones are expected to run on Google’s next-generation Tensor G4 chipset.

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL hands-on video

In addition, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL was just the main star in a new YouTube video. The successor to the Pixel 8 Pro is likely to pack various pro-level camera features into its XL body. YouTube channel PixoPhone compared both devices in a hands-on video.

The two Google phones will have a similar matte finish on the back. It also looks like the Pixel 9 Pro XL will be about the same size as the Pixel 8 Pro. But that’s where the visual similarities end. The Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a flat frame instead of relying on curved edges like the Pixel 8 Pro. The cameras on the back seem to stick to the same order. However, the camera module is now oval-shaped instead of extending from one end to the other.

The corners of the new smartphone will be rounder, and thanks to the flat sides, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL should be quite comfortable to hold. In the background on the table is also a regular Pixel 9, which we already saw in an earlier video from the same channel.
