Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Hands-on video, specs and price
We are less than a month away from the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 on July 10th. And just like yesterday’s big Galaxy Z Flip6 leak, the next Fold is now on every corner of the internet. On offer today: a hands-on video of a dummy unit and two new leaks on the technical specifications and pricing.
The video confirms what we have already seen in numerous leaked renders of the Samsung smartphone. It compares the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 dummy with a real Galaxy Z Fold5. The differences in dimensions are quite obvious. You can also clearly see the more angular design similar to that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The outer cover display has become wider and has significantly thinner bezels. The main display also gets thinner bezels this year, but the difference is slightly smaller. The side frame is completely flat and there are no curves either, but the hinge design looks exactly the same. The new camera island has a cleaner design and the camera lenses are flush with the island. Last but not least, the video shows that the new Z Fold6 is around a millimeter thinner than its predecessor at 12.5mm.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 specifications
In a second leak, the full spec sheet of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has come to light, confirming some major changes. The cover display will be 6.3 inches with a resolution of 968 x 2,376 pixels (22.1:9 instead of 23.1:9 on the old model). By the looks of it, it’s still a 120 Hz LTPS panel. The internal display has also changed – the 7.6-inch diagonal now offers a resolution of 1,856 x 2,160 pixels instead of 1,812 x 2,176 pixels. The new aspect ratio is 10.5:9, a little closer to square than the 10.8:9 of last year’s Fold. This is also a 120Hz non-LTPO display.
The leaked specs don’t explicitly name the chipset, Samsung rarely does that, but the octa-core CPU shows that it’s a Snapdragon rather than the 10-core Exynos. There’s no change in RAM – only 12GB is listed – and storage is 512GB. The rest of the spec sheet doesn’t show many changes – a 4,400mAh battery that charges via USB 3.2 Gen 1. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 connects via Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, UWB and of course 5G.
Unfortunately, there’s little change in the Z Fold6’s cameras, according to the leak. The 50 megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture, OIS and 8K/30fps videos, the 10 megapixel 3x telephoto lens, also with OIS, and the 12 megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with 120 degrees remain. There are two selfie cameras: 10 megapixels on the cover display and 4 megapixels under the main display.
Prices
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 prices are the same as the Galaxy Z Flip6 – there is an increase of $100. The change will affect all storage options, which, like last year, are expected to include 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. In addition, all previous benchmarks have shown 12 GB of RAM, so a 16 GB model seems unlikely for now.
Like the Flip, the Fold6 will also have some starting offers, including the free storage upgrade. This means that the 512 GB model should end up at $1,900. You can also choose between the colors Silver Shadow, Navy and Pink, as well as some exclusive options when purchasing directly from Samsung. The weight also changes – the Galaxy Z Fold6 is 14 g lighter than its predecessor at 239 g. The new Galaxy AI functions are also a safe bet.
