Honor Magic6 Pro: second generation silicon-carbon battery
The recently launched Honor Magic6 Pro is equipped with a second-generation silicon-carbon battery. The cell is intended to deliver both more reliable performance under different conditions and higher energy density. The battery is also the first in the world of smartphones to have a discrete chip called Power Enhanced Chip Honor E1.
The Honor Magic6 Pro’s new battery technology uses silicon instead of graphite for the negative electrode. Silicon itself has several key advantages over graphite, most notably its higher density. The silicon anode offers 10 times the energy density of graphite, but it expands in volume by up to 300% and has a shorter lifespan. That’s why Honor uses a silicon-carbon anode to compensate for the disadvantages of silicon.
Honor says the Microtunneling Laser Guidance technology makes a big difference when used for the silicon-based anode. It increases the contact area between the electrolyte and the silicon-based anode, thereby increasing the usable capacity in the low-voltage range.
Honor Magic6 Pro with its own charging chip
The second generation silicon-carbon battery also features improvements in charging. To ensure optimal performance, the company has even included a standalone chip in the Honor Magic6 Pro that manages the battery and constantly adjusts the power depending on the environment and load. According to Honor, it makes the battery safer and ensures it performs better in extreme weather conditions, especially cold.
It also provides more accurate percentages of the remaining battery level and charges with 80 instead of 66 watts. Honor claims that the Magic6 Pro’s efficiency outperforms any smartphone at -20°C. Interestingly, Tesla has been working on such battery technology since 2016 and has already introduced it.
