Pre-orders for Apple Vision Pro are live – with bonus material
Apple has opened pre-orders for its first “spatial computer,” the Vision Pro headset. As already announced, deliveries will start on February 2nd. On the pre-order page you can find further details about the headset, including of course the prices. It starts at $3,499 (€3,206) with 256GB of storage, $3,699 for 512GB and the top model with 1TB is $3,899. All versions can also be financed with monthly payments over a year using the Apple Card. To make it easier for people to use the all-new product, Apple produced a nearly ten-minute video. It represents a kind of guided tour through the Vision Pro.
AppleCare+ for the Apple Vision Pro costs an additional $499 but includes unlimited repairs to protect against accidental damage, express replacement service, and priority access to Apple experts 24/7. Before you start looking for your credit card, you first have to measure the light seal and the headband. Of course, you need an iPhone or iPad with Face ID for this. There are also two different Zeiss lenses available if needed – reading lenses for $99 and prescription lenses for $149.
Apple Vision Pro charger is included
In addition to the Apple Vision Pro headset itself, the delivery also includes a dual-loop band, a case, the battery, the light seal, a polishing cloth, a USB-C charging cable and actually a charger. The headset itself features an M2 chipset with an 8-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. There is also a 10-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine and 16 GB of unified memory on board. The dedicated R1 chip offers a photon-to-photon latency of 12 ms with a memory bandwidth of 256 GB/s.
The displays support 90Hz, 96Hz and 100Hz refresh rates as well as 24fps and 30fps video playback. The Micro-OLED panels cover 92% of the DCI-P3 color space with a pixel pitch of 7.5 microns and 23 million total pixels. Additionally, you can use AirPlay to mirror the Vision Pro on any AirPlay-enabled device.
In addition to two high-resolution main cameras, the Apple Vision Pro also has six outward-facing tracking cameras, four eye tracking cameras, a LiDAR scanner, four inertial sensors, a flicker sensor and an ambient light sensor. You also get iris-based biometrics, six microphones, spatial audio as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 for your money.
Apple specifies the battery life as 2 hours for general use and 2.5 hours for video playback. That sounds pretty slim, but you can also use the headset while charging. The Vision Pro weighs between 600 and 650 g depending on the configuration, while the separate battery weighs 353 g.
