Samsung Galaxy S24: 7 years of software updates, Galaxy AI
According to the latest leak, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is expected to get software updates for seven years. That’s the good news, but there was also some bad news. The company’s Galaxy AI, which will premiere with the Galaxy smartphones, may require a subscription fee in the future. The leak also included new images of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra, including new camera information.
The new images reveal, among other things, further details about the camera update of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. If the images are real, the flagships bring a doubling of “optical quality zoom”. With the 200 megapixel main camera, this means a twofold digital zoom. The new 50 megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom should also be able to deliver 10x hybrid zoom in “optical quality”. The technology behind it is obvious – lossless digital zoom is possible due to the high resolutions.
The Galaxy AI of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is then used for image editing and can also manipulate images significantly. For example, it can edit the cyclist on the ramp in the third photo above to appear to be jumping higher than in real life.
The Galaxy AI feature will be available on “supported Galaxy devices.” This should at least justify the other flagship models from recent years. So far there has only been one confirmation that the software will remain free until 2025. After that, Samsung will likely go the Google One route and hide some features behind a subscription model.
