Samsung Galaxy S23, S22 and S21 get January update
Samsung has started rolling out the January 2024 security patch for its flagship phones in Europe. The Samsung Galaxy S23 gets firmware version S91xBXXS3BWL3. The Galaxy S22 is supplied with the S90xBXXS7DWL3 update and the Galaxy S21 with the version G99xBXXS9FWL9. The download package is approximately 400 MB in size.
Despite the comparatively compact size, there are a few changes included. According to the official changelog, Samsung has only fixed one critical security issue. But a further 67 high-priority problems were also fixed by the Korean company. The bugs included a vulnerability in the Bluetooth pairing process that allowed attackers to start a pairing process without user interaction. There was also an issue in Samsung DeX that might allow access to another user’s notifications in multi-user environments.
However, Samsung had also promised that there would be a protective measure against burn-in of the display for the January security patch. It is unclear whether this is on board – at least in the change log of the Galaxy phones there is nothing on this topic.
After launching in Europe, the January update for the Samsung Galaxy S23, S22 and S21 should next make its way to the USA. In addition to the series already mentioned, the patch will also be available in the same wave for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Flip5, Z Fold4, Z Flip4, Galaxy A54 and Note20. Interestingly, there is still no trace of Fan Edition devices in the current wave.
