Realme used to think digital zoom was completely sufficient, but today the Chinese are holding media events to explain their periscope zoom camera technology. This will also end up in the upcoming Realme 12 Pro phones, which we think is excellent. After all, periscope cameras were pretty much the only thing Realme was missing for real flagship phones for a long time.

It started with the Realme GT5 Pro and the Realme 12 Pro series should have exactly the same implementation. In addition, a 3x portrait mode with a focal length of 71 mm is available, while a maximum of up to 120x digital zoom is possible. Aside the Pro, we can also expect a Pro+ model, although the differences are still unclear. Both versions have a Sony IMX890 main camera with an equivalent focal length of 24 mm and optical image stabilization. The periscope camera uses an OV64B sensor instead. The new Realme phones will also feature an ultra-wide camera. Together, the three lenses offer “lossless zoom at 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 3x and 6x.”

In addition to camera system details, Realme also revealed a Realme 12 Pro in the new Submarine Blue color, which is likely to be the Pro+ model. Above you can also see what the periscope does at 120x digital zoom. Designed in collaboration with luxury watch designer Ollivier Saveo, the range will feature CNC-machined gold ridged edges, a proprietary “sunburst” phone app, premium vegan leather and a 3D anniversary bracelet.

Realme’s India events page says, “See you on XX Jan, 2024”. So we will find out very soon what the new periscope camera can do.
