Xiaomi HyperOS and Black Shark S1 Pro start global rollout
Xiaomi announced its new Android interface called HyperOS back in October and released the revised software along with the Xiaomi 14 series in China. Now the company has started the global rollout of Xiaomi HyperOS. Nine devices will get the new firmware in the first quarter of 2024. These are the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, 13 Pro, 13, 13T Pro, 13T, Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12S, the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Poco F5.
According to Xiaomi, the update comes as an OTA download, but the rollout will be gradual. Xiaomi HyperOS is designed to have a unified interface for smartphones, smart home devices and even cars. Aside from a slight visual redesign, the operating system has a faster kernel, less baggage than MIUI and installs faster.
Xiaomi Black Shark S1 Pro
In addition to Xiaomi HyperOS, new hardware also set off on a world tour today. Back in September, Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming division introduced new gaming accessories, including the Black Shark S1 smartwatch. Today the Chinese have introduced a more powerful model called the Black Shark S1 Pro. The watch has a robust, waterproof case according to the IP68 standard and a voice assistant with support for ChatGPT.
The Xiaomi Black Shark S1 Pro is based on a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels, a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a peak brightness of up to 600 nits. Like most of cheaper Xiaomi smartwatches, the S1 Pro runs on the FreeRTOS operating system. According to Black Shark, the Chat-GPT integration allows the AI assistant to answer simple questions that are likely to be routed between the watch and the paired smartphone.
The Black Shark S1 Pro also offers Bluetooth calling directly from the smartwatch, 24/7 heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring, and NFC. You can also track over 100 sports and have a battery life of 15 days under normal use. There is a black and a blue version priced at $69 (€63/INR 5,737).
