The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro came onto the market at the end of October with a befitting camera setup. Three 50 megapixel cameras work on the back of Xiaomi’s currently best smartphones. This raises the question of what additional updates a potential Xiaomi 14 Ultra could get to differentiate itself from the other models. A new report from Chinese social network Weibo has a pretty clear idea. Accordingly, there will be four 50 megapixel cameras on the back. The main camera should have a faster and larger variable aperture from f/1.6 to f/4.0.

A solution with a variable aperture is basically nothing new for Xiaomi. The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro have two-stage wide lenses that can switch between apertures of f/1.4 and f/4.0. And while the f/1.6 aperture is slightly smaller on the Ultra, that’s likely offset by a much larger sensor. The lens also collects more light than fits through the f/1.9 aperture of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra main camera.

Previous reports suggested a Sony LYT-900 sensor for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s main camera. This rumor, combined with a new feature that allows you to change the lens for shooting depending on how much light falls on the sensor, could significantly improve the Xiaomi smartphone’s camera performance.
