nubia Red Magic 9 Pro and Pro+ with SD 8 Gen 3 are here
The nubia Red Magic 9 Pro and Pro+ from ZTE are official and want to shake up the mobile gaming industry with the most impressive hardware setup. Both new phones feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, shoulder buttons and illuminated, active fans. The basic hardware is identical, but there are differences in battery capacity, charging speed and the size of the RAM.
Both nubia Red Magic 9 Pro models are equipped with flat 6.8-inch BOE AMOLED displays with 1,116 x 2,480 pixels. The refresh rate is 120 Hz. The panel, surrounded by slim frames, also hides what is now the fifth generation of nubia’s under-display cameras with 16 megapixels. Peak brightness is 1,600 nits and PWM dimming reaches 2,160 Hz. There is also a fingerprint sensor in the panel that doubles as a heart rate monitor.
Additionally, the nubia Red Magic 9 Pro has 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The Pro+ variant has up to 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage on board. Both gaming smartphones rely on the updated ICE 13 cooling system, which now covers a total area of 10,182 mm2. According to nubia, it can reduce the body temperature by up to 18 degrees Celsius. It combines a graphene layer under the display with a larger air channel for better air circulation. The fan inside the device now rotates at 22,000 rpm and has 30% improved thermal conductivity.
All Red Magic 9 Pro models are based on aviation-grade aluminum frames and a flat glass back with no protruding camera lenses. The camera setup consists of a 50-megapixel main camera with a Samsung GN5 sensor with OIS and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Red Magic OS 9.0 based on Android 14 is used as the software interface.
The main differences between the two smartphones are the battery capacity and charging speeds. The nubia Red Magic 9 has a 6,500 mAh battery with 80 watt cable charging. The 9 Pro+ instead uses a smaller 5,500 mAh battery that charges at an extremely fast 165 watts. nubia also includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, a headphone jack and an infrared transmitter.
nubia Red Magic 9 Pro prices
Both cell phones are available in black, white-transparent and black-transparent. The Red Magic 9 Pro starts at CNY 4,399 (€568/$620) for the base 8/256GB model. You have to invest 5,399 CNY (€697/$761) for the transparent versions with 12/512 GB.
For the nubia Red Magic 9 Pro+ you will have to pay at least CNY 5,499 (€710/$775) for the 16/256 GB variant. The top model with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage costs CNY 6,999 (€904/$987). Open sales in China begin on November 28th, with international pricing and availability to be announced at a later date.
