Tip: Apple is introducing new Macs this month

According to Mark Gurman, Apple plans to unveil new Macs at the end of this month. This is likely to include the announcement of an updated 24-inch iMac, which is overdue for a hardware update. The current model was released in April 2021 and is the only current-generation Mac that still runs on the M1 chipset. Gurman has repeatedly said that Apple’s next iMac will skip the M2 and go straight to the M3 chip instead. He did not reveal whether this is the Pro, Max or Ultra version.

Gurman pointed out that both the iMac and MacBook Pro 13, as well as the MacBook Pro 14 und MacBook Pro 16, are currently suffering from limited availability in Apple stores. Many configurations won’t be available again until mid-November. That is “a clear sign that something is about to happen.” He added that Apple has “made headway” with the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. The current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets came onto the market in January. Nevertheless, he considers an “additional update the same year would be unusual, but not inconceivable.”

The presentation will take place on Monday, October 30th or Tuesday, October 31st, according to Gurman. Next up is Apple’s earnings call on Thursday, November 2nd. He doesn’t expect any of the new Macs to feature any major changes other than new processors. Although, in his opinion, there could be minor improvements to the displays.

Gurman also reiterated rumors that next-generation MacBook Air models with M3 chips won’t launch until early 2024. A larger Pro version of the iMac with a 32-inch display and a new design is planned for the end of 2024 or 2025. There could apparently be bigger changes if Apple begins to expand the range to include touchscreens in the future.
