Apple Car Key support for Lexus vehicles before launch
According to a new report, there are indications that Apple Car Key support for Lexus vehicles is imminent. References to Lexus were found in Apple’s backend code, suggesting that the Toyota-owned luxury brand will be integrated into Apple’s Car Key system. This discovery is similar to Toyota’s own Car Key integration approach, which was introduced in February for the RAV4 (2026 model year). It is still unclear when exactly the feature will be available to customers.
Lexus already offers its own app-based digital key system. However, unlike Apple Car Key, this requires an active connection to Toyota’s servers and has not previously worked with the Apple Wallet. Apple Car Key stores the digital key directly in the Wallet app and uses NFC for unlocking. An Express Mode allows access without authentication. On compatible devices, the system works for up to five hours after the smartphone battery is depleted.
First Apple Car Key model will be the Lexus ES 2026
Toyota confirmed to Carscoops In February, it was announced that the 2026 Lexus ES would be the first Lexus model to receive enhanced Digital Key functionality as part of a next-generation infotainment system. The vehicle’s launch is expected later this year. It is likely that the code references are related to this upcoming launch.
Keyless entry support for car keys has steadily spread across the industry. Vehicles from BMW, Genesis, Kia, Hyundai, Lotus, Mercedes, Volvo and other manufacturers already offer this feature. There is already a long list of vehicles with Digital Key 4.0 support.
