Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: Prices for South Korea and new hinge details leaked

Last week, European prices for Samsung’s upcoming foldable Galaxy Z smartphones surfaced online. Now, a new report from South Korea has revealed the expected prices for the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8 in the company’s home market. According to the report, Samsung’s upcoming foldable Galaxy Z smartphones will cost 200,000 KRW more than their predecessors.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is expected to be available in South Korea starting at approximately 2,278,000 KRW (US$1,499), while the Ultra model is expected to start at 2,577,000 KRW (US$1,685). The Galaxy Z Flip8, on the other hand, is rumored to start at approximately 1,683,000 KRW (US$1,099). These prices are reportedly for the base version with 256 GB of storage.

The report also claims that Samsung will begin accepting pre-orders for its new foldable smartphones in South Korea on July 28, with the pre-order period running until August 4. Deliveries to those who pre-ordered are expected to begin on August 4, while general sales could start on August 7.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra displays without visible creases
In a second new rumor, the well-known leaker Ice Universe discusses the compromises Samsung had to make to ensure that the new foldable smartphones are virtually crease-free. The reason, according to him, lies in a complete redesign of the hinge mechanism of both devices compared to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold7. The new hinge, however, inevitably results in a folding and unfolding process that is described as “more precise.”

Ice Universe explains that this means it “doesn’t fit as well in the hand at certain angles as before.” So this is the compromise Samsung supposedly had to make to achieve a crease that can compete with that of the Oppo Find N6 and presumably also the upcoming Apple iPhone Ultra.
Since the statement is relatively cryptic, one can only speculate that the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra cannot be opened at every angle, or that they cannot stay open at some angles.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip8 at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London, UK on July 22.
