Honor Magic V5: Hands-on photos and specs leaked

A major new leak brings various images and technical specifications for the Honor Magic V5. Will it set the record for the thinnest foldable?

Honor developed the first foldable smartphone under 10 mm in 2023: the Magic V2. Now the company is ready to break the 9 mm mark – it has already unveiled the design of the Honor Magic V5 and confirmed that it will be 8.8 mm thick when closed. But is that enough for the record of the thinnest foldable?

Chances are good – the currently thinnest model is the Oppo Find N5 at 8.9 mm. However, many competing models are in the pipeline, and it will be exciting to see how they battle for the crown. In the run-up to the market launch, there were already several official teasers for the Honor Magic V5. But that wasn’t enough for the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, who published the most important details and hands-on photos of the real device.

The slim 8.8mm case will be relatively light at 217g. This is lighter than some compact models (the Galaxy S25 Ultra weighs 218g, the iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227g). However, other foldables of this size are also about to be launched, such as the upcoming vivo X Fold5, which is expected to weigh 216 g.

The Honor Magic V5 will also have a large battery capacity of 6,100 mAh. Rumors suggest that Samsung is also planning an extremely thin device, possibly even the thinnest ever, with the Galaxy Z Fold7. The V5’s battery is also said to support 66-watt wired charging and 50-watt wireless charging.

Honor Magic V5 technical specifications

The Honor Magic V5 will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, possibly the top version. According to DCS , the camera system should be quite efficient with a 13 mm ultra-wake angle and a 3x-70 mm periscope.

According to unofficial information, the smartphone will offer a 6.45-inch cover display and a 8-inch main display. There will also be a fingerprint reader attached to the side.

There were rumors that the main camera will have a 200-MP sensor, but a newer leak refutes this statement. Instead, the smartphone should have a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wake angle camera and either a 50 MP telecamera or a 64 MP camera. The two selfie cameras have 20 MP sensors.

If the above leak applies, the Honor Magic V5 will also shine with an IP68/IP69 certification. The current state of protection for foldable devices is IP48, but several companies allegedly want to switch to IP69 in the current generation. In addition, the V5 will have an IR station and NFC.

Honor will present the Magic V5 next week. There will also be more new devices, such as the MagicPad 3.
