vivo X Fold5: Dimensions, battery capacity and launch date

The vivo X Fold5 is currently in the news almost daily. At the beginning of the month, a size comparison with the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max appeared. Another teaser showed that the new model is lighter than the X Fold3 Pro. So far, none of the teasers have provided concrete figures.

Now, vivo manager Han Boxiao has decided to clear up some further confusion: “The vivo X Fold5 is about 2 mm thinner and 20 grams lighter” than the X Fold3 Pro. That would mean a 216 g smartphone that is 9.2 mm thick when closed. When opened, the thickness should definitely be less than 5 mm, but the exact value depends on the hinge design.

Other brands, such as Samsung with the Galaxy Z Fold7, are focusing more on extremely thin devices. The vivo X Fold5, on the other hand, puts battery life first. The new model will have a 6,000 mAh battery, 300 mAh more than its thicker and heavier predecessor. This is achieved through the industry’s first fourth-generation silicon anode, Han writes. The silicon content will be 2.5 times higher, increasing battery density by 13%. The battery also features a second-generation semi-solid electrolyte that keeps it functional down to very low temperatures of -30°C (-22°F).

earlier teasers have us reveal that the Vivo X Fold5 will also set a new benchmark in terms of protection against penetrating dirt at foldables- IP5X for solids and IPX9+ for water. IP48 is currently the best protection class for foldable devices. The IPX9+classification refers specifically to the ability to combine and apart the smartphone under water.

In addition, the X Fold5 uses LTPO 8T panels for the cover and main display, which achieve a peak brightness of 4.500 NITS and offer Zeiss Master color calibration.
vivo X Fold5: Start on June 25th with 80w-charging
The Chinese also confirmed the start date of the vivo X Fold5 for the home market – on June 25th the time has come, but the global market launch is not yet known. According to sources of 91mobile, the company plans to publish the device in the second week of July. That would match last year’s publication of the X Fold3 series, but the X Fold5 Pro is not mentioned.
Digital Chat Station, a renowned tipster from China, also published new technical data on Weibo. According to the post, the X Fold5 will also have a large 6,000 mAh battery. DCS also mentions the charging speed of fast 80 watts by cable and 40 watts wireless. If this applies, the X Fold5 will have the largest battery and the fastest loading speed in the foldable segment.
On the back there are three 50 MP cameras, one of them with a triple optical zoom. The water resistance corresponds to IPX8/IPX9/IPX9+ and that with dust protection IP5X also the post from Han.
