vivo X Fold5 vs. iPhone 16 Pro Max
Vivo introduced the X Fold3 in March 2024. Accordingly, it’s high time for its successor, called the vivo X Fold5 instead of the Fold4. Vivo recently published a report showing that the Fold5 is lighter than the Fold3 at 219 g. Now a representative of the brand has published some images comparing the thickness of the foldable device with that of the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max. In addition, an official video appeared yesterday comparing the weight and size with the X Fold3.
The images show the vivo X Fold5 both folded and unfolded next to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. You can see that the X Fold5 is thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro Max when unfolded. But even when folded, it is only slightly thicker than the iPhone, which measures 8.3 mm. According to leaked specifications, the X Fold5 will measure 4.3 mm when opened and 9.33 mm when closed. The X Fold3 is 4.7 mm/10.2 mm.
There are already devices that are thinner, for example the Oppo Find N5 with 4.2 mm/8.9 mm. However, the N5 is heavier at 229 g. IceUniverse claims that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will measure 4.2mm/8.9mm. It will also be thinner than the vivo, but the weight remains to be seen.
The vivo X Fold5 features a foldable 8.03-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz and 2K+ resolution. The outer screen – also with a 120 Hz refresh rate – measures 6.53 inches diagonally.

In addition, well-known tipster Ice Universe shared a video of vivo manager Boxiao Han weighing the vivo X Fold5 and the X Fold3. As expected, the new model is significantly lighter.
The vivo X Fold5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset apparently, the same chip as the Fold3 Pro. It also comes with up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The 6,000 mAh battery supports 90-watt wired charging and 30-watt wireless charging. The X Fold5 also features five cameras: two 32 MP selfie cameras (one on each screen) and three 50 MP cameras (main, ultra-wide, and periscope telephoto) on the back.
The main camera uses the Sony IMX921 sensor, while the periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom uses the Sony IMX882 sensor. The ultra-wide camera has autofocus for macro photography. vivo has not yet announced the release date of the X Fold5. According to rumors, the smartphone will launch on July 10th alongside the X200 FE.
