Apple Wallet in iOS 26: Store physical card details in the app
The Apple Wallet app in iOS 26 includes a new feature that lets you store physical card information alongside your digital payment cards. This allows you to quickly access account numbers, expiration dates, and other details without having to carry the physical card with you.
It’s a simple addition to iOS 26, but it brings the Apple Wallet app closer to a comprehensive card management tool, closing the gap left by third-party apps like 1Password normally fills out the details. With the full card information, you can check your card’s expiration date for a subscription service or provide account information over the phone without having to dig through your physical wallet or remember card numbers. It also means you don’t have to hunt for Safari‘s AutoFill fields in Settings.
Adding Physical Card Information
To save your physical card details, follow these steps:
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap one of your saved cards. Alternatively, you can add a new card using the plus sign (+) and select it in Wallet.
- Tap the “123” card icon at the top and then authenticate with Face ID or your passcode.
- Select “Add Physical Card Info.”
- Select “Add Card Info.”
- Enter your card information: name, number, expiration date (optional), and security code.
- Add a description to identify the card.
- Tap “Done” to save.
Apple encrypts and stores this information in your iCloud Keychain. This keeps it secure and accessible only to you. The data will not be used for Apple Pay transactions.
View stored information in Apple Wallet
After entering your information, simply tap the card in the wallet and then tap the “123” button at the top. You will need to authenticate with Face ID or your passcode before the information is displayed. This increases the security of your stored card information.
Please note that this is a feature of iOS 26, which is currently in beta phase. Apple will release a public version of iOS 26 sometime in September.
