Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold vs Apple iPhone Fold

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold is expected to launch with a production run of 1 million units and directly compete with the first Apple iPhone Fold, which is rumored to be released later this year. According to the Korean news portal ETNews this makes the Wide Fold the largest initial production run of a Samsung special edition model in the last three years.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold is expected to feature a foldable 7.6-inch OLED display with a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded and a 5.4-inch cover display. The Apple iPhone Fold is expected to launch this fall with a similar 4:3 aspect ratio. When folded, it offers a 5.3-inch external display that is shorter and wider than a typical iPhone display. Unfolded, it reveals a larger, iPad-style 7.7-inch display, as The Information reported.

Industry analyst Ming Chi Kuo expects 8 to 10 million Apple iPhone Fold to be sold by the end of the year, assuming the new model launches in 2026 and is not delayed until early next year. Either way, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Wide Fold, adopting the same aspect ratio, seems to have no time to waste in challenging Apple in a market segment that the Korean tech giant has dominated until now.
Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold: Production is ready
According to a source cited in the report, manufacturing the Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold is “not significantly more complex than manufacturing the TriFold.” Accordingly, Samsung could increase production depending on market response. From the upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold only a limited edition of around 200,000 units is expected to be released, compared to the projected 1 million units of the Wide Fold. Samsung plans to launch the TriFold on January 30th. starting at $2,899.
According to ETNews, the Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold will be released alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Z Flip8. The special edition models were unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event in July of the third quarter. If this is true, it would be a change from previous years, in which Samsung presented the special edition models at staggered intervals to avoid cannibalizing sales of its main products.
According to reports, Samsung’s foldable smartphones deliveries exceeded the 6 million device mark last year. The Korean company expects this number to increase further once the Wide Fold is added to its portfolio. Apple will introduce the iPhone Fold in September together with the iPhone 18 Pro models.
