Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 will be thinner and lighter
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 will be released next summer, following Samsung’s usual pattern, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8. A report from its home country of Korea now provides some interesting details about the Flip8.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is reportedly at least 10% thinner and lighter than its predecessor. When open, it would be a maximum of 6 mm thick, and when closed, 12 mm thick, weighing approximately 170 g. This is likely to be crucial in Samsung achieving 10% higher sales figures with the Flip8 and Fold8 than with the Flip7 and Fold7. The company has apparently set a sales target of 6.7 million units for the upcoming foldable smartphones.
The plan to make the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 thinner and lighter is a consequence of the comparatively weak sales figures of the Galaxy Z Flip7. And that makes perfect sense, especially considering that Samsung’s Chinese competitors have all recently focused on thinness and lightness in their foldable devices.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 vs. iPhone Flip
Samsung is also reportedly concerned that Apple could enter the foldable device market in 2026 with the first iPhone Fold. While this could expand the overall foldable device market, Apple could also lure away some Samsung customers. To prevent this, the Korean company is trying, among other things, to make the Flip8 more attractive.
And it was about time – this year the Fold7 became significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, while the Flip7 still looks very similar to the Galaxy Z Flip6. If this report is correct, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 will essentially receive a similar update next year to the Galaxy Z Fold8 this year.
