Galaxy Z Fold7 in durability test, S25 Edge in teardown

Two of the hottest products on the smartphone market right now are the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and the Galaxy S25 Edge. Both devices have appeared in new test videos—the Fold in a durability test, the Edge in a teardown.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Durability Test

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 has passed JerryRigEverything‘s scratch, bend, and fire tests. Although foldable devices don’t have the best track record in these tests, the Z Fold7 exceeded expectations. And this despite the fact that it’s Samsung’s thinnest phone ever and the Korean company’s lightest foldable phone to date.

One reason for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7’s good performance is its exceptionally well-made construction. The Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 covering the cover display, as usual, exhibits scratches at level 6 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. The foldable main display, however, is significantly more susceptible to damage and scratches at level 2. This is no surprise, though; it’s the same for all foldables with ultra-thin glass (UTG) displays.

The aluminum sides of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and the Armor FlexHinge hinge proved robust in testing, and the IP48 rating proved effective against dust and other small stone fragments. The highlight of the video, however, is the bend test. This shows that the smartphone, although it yields significantly, remains fully functional.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Teardown

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is reminiscent of a Galaxy S25+ without telephoto lens. After all, both devices have the same displays and roughly the same dimensions, although the S25 Edge is obviously significantly thinner.

So you might assume that the Galaxy S25 Edge is almost identical to the S25+, aside from a few minor chassis improvements that reduce overall weight. However, a recent teardown video reveals much more. It shows that Samsung was able to save a few grams on every component, not just the frame or the backplate.

The video is in Korean and shows a complete disassembly of the Galaxy S25 Edge and S25+, along with a weight specification for each component. The video concludes with a table comparing the weight of each component.

Samsung was able to save weight, especially in the battery and midframe. The Edge’s battery is 12.6 grams lighter, and the midframe is 2.8 grams lighter, primarily thanks to the use of titanium instead of aluminum. The developers also found a few grams in the motherboard, camera, back, NFC and MST modules, vibration motor, and speakers of the Samsung phone.

The total weight difference between the components is 27 grams. This means that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, at 163 grams, is 27 grams lighter and 1.5 mm thinner.
