Report: Samsung Galaxy S26 recycles Galaxy S25 cameras
For several years now, Samsung has pursued a uniform approach to the cameras in its Galaxy S base models. The Galaxy S25 came onto the market in January with the same triple camera as the Galaxy S24, which in turn uses the same camera hardware as the Galaxy S23. According to a new report from the South Korean website The Elec, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 will unsurprisingly use the same camera modules as the Galaxy S25.
This means a 50 MP main camera (1/1.56 inch), a 10MP telephoto lens (1/3.94 inch) with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens (1/2.55 inch). However, that wasn’t the original plan. According to the same report, Samsung actually planned to upgrade the sensors of the Galaxy S26 along with a higher starting price, but the market launch of the iPhone 17 changed these plans.
Samsung Galaxy S26 vs. Apple iPhone 17
Apple’s decision to make the standard model of the iPhone 17 with a 120Hz ProMotion LTPO OLED display and 256GB of internal storage while maintaining the starting price of €949/$799 influenced Samsung’s decision-making. This reportedly led the Korean company to decide at the last minute to scrap the camera upgrades of the Samsung Galaxy S26 in order to also achieve a starting price of $799.
The effects are expected to lead to a delay in the production schedule of the Galaxy S26, as Samsung needs to revise the internal components. Accordingly, mass production of the Galaxy S26 Ultra will start quite normally this month, while production of the Galaxy S26 and S26+will not begin until early 2026.
