According to a recent stock analysis report from JP Morgan, the upcoming Apple iPhone Fold will feature a 24MP under-display camera integrated into the inner display. Rumors of an under-display camera beneath the main display of Apple’s first foldable phone have been circulating for some time. However, the mention of the 24MP resolution is new.

Under-display camera technology has been available from some Android manufacturers, such as Nubia with its recently unveiled Z80 Ultra. However, these cameras typically have lower-resolution sensors (e.g., 4 or 8 megapixels) because image quality suffers from the camera being located beneath the display layers.

The leap to a 24-megapixel camera (with six plastic lens elements, according to the report) would therefore represent a significant technological advancement, potentially leading to clearer, sharper, and more detailed images. The level of detail suggests that Apple has found a solution for significantly improved light transmission and image quality compared to previous models.

However, JP Morgan’s forecast also indicates that Apple has made some compromises to keep the foldable device compact, such as omitting LiDAR and optical image stabilization.

Apple iPhone Fold with Four Cameras

According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple iPhone Fold will feature a dual rear camera and two front-facing cameras for both the folded and unfolded states. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently confirmed reports that the device will have four cameras: a front-facing camera, an internal camera, and two rear cameras. The well-known insider Digital Chat Station from the Chinese social network Weibo claims that the two main cameras will each have a 48-megapixel resolution.

Other sources claim that the inner display will have an under-display camera, while the outer display – when the device is folded – will have a punch-hole camera. Apple is reportedly using Touch ID, integrated into the power button, for biometric authentication instead of Face ID.

Gurman expects the Apple iPhone Fold to be released in the fall of next year. However, the Japanese investment bank Mizuho Securities considers a delay to 2027 possible, as Apple needs more time to decide on important design elements such as the hinge.
