The Apple iPhone 17 Pro models will feature several new camera features, according to an anonymous tipster who contacted MacRumors today. The source claimed to be familiar with a commercial for the Pro model reportedly produced by a film company that has publicly listed Apple as one of its clients. However, there is no independent confirmation of the information shared yet.

iPhone 17 Pro with three new camera features

The source revealed three alleged new features of the Apple iPhone 17 Pro that hadn’t previously appeared in leaks:

  • An improved telephoto lens with up to 8x optical zoom, compared to up to 5x optical zoom on the iPhone 16 Pro models. The lens can apparently be moved, allowing for continuous optical zoom at different focal lengths.
  • A brand-new pro camera app from Apple for photos and videos. This app would compete with programs like Halide, Kino, and Filmic Pro. It is unclear whether the app will be available exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro models.
  • An additional camera control button on the top edge of the device provides quick access to the camera and related settings. This would complement the camera control button on the bottom right edge of all iPhone 16 models.

The source warned that Apple may be planning a major update to the existing Final Cut Camera app for the Pro Camera app, rather than a completely new one. In addition, the rumors about a new copper-like color option and a centered Apple logo on the iPhone 17 Pro are apparently true. Unfortunately, he doesn’t comment on the most exciting new color option, namely Liquid Glass.

Three 48-megapixel cameras

The iPhone 17 Pro models are widely expected to feature a redesigned rear camera system. Therefore, it would be a fitting year for Apple to plan some major camera upgrades. Specifically, this likely means three 48-megapixel cameras on the back.

In February, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also said that Apple will also focus on the iPhone 17 Pro’s improved video recording capabilities:

In recent years, Apple has placed more emphasis on the camera’s photo capabilities. This year, Apple will improve video recording. One of the goals of the 2025 iPhone lineup is to encourage the vlogging community and other video producers to move away from standalone cameras and use the iPhone even more for their work. Apple will tout these video recording features more prominently than ever when it launches the new iPhones in September.

Videos with the front and main cameras simultaneously

In addition, Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech explained that the camera app on the iPhone 17 Pro models will allow users to videos simultaneously with of the front and main cameras.

As mentioned above, these rumors should be viewed with skepticism for now, as they were started by an anonymous informant with no proven track record. Should other sources confirm or deny these rumors, we will inform you as soon as possible.
