The flat and relatively slim case is designed for all-day wear and sleep tracking. Different wristbands allow for adaptation to sports, everyday life, and more formal occasions.
Build quality
The construction of the Apple Watch Series 12 varies depending on the chosen case variant. In the aluminum versions, Ceramic Shield 2 protects the display. Apple states that this material is 60 percent more durable than the Ion-X glass of previous aluminum versions. The titanium and ceramic models, on the other hand, use sapphire crystal.
- Aluminum, titanium or ceramic housing
- Ceramic Shield 2 for aluminum
- Sapphire crystal on titanium
- Sapphire glass in ceramics
- Water-resistant housing
- Suitable for swim training
- Depth gauge up to 6 meters
- Water temperature sensor
Apple uses fully recycled aluminum for the aluminum case. The 3D-printed titanium case is also made from fully recycled titanium. In total, at least 40 percent of the Apple Watch Series 12 is made from recycled materials.
The ceramic version adds a premium case option to the Apple Watch Series 12 lineup. Matching Sport Bands are offered with a ceramic clasp that is visually coordinated with the respective case.
Display
The Apple Watch Series 12 features an always-on Retina display with wide-angle OLEDs and LTPO3 technology. The display size and resolution differ between the two case variants. The 42mm model offers an active area of 374 x 446 pixels, while the 46mm version has 416 x 496 pixels. Both variants have a pixel density of 326 ppi.
- Always-On Retina Display
- Wide-angle OLED
- LTPO3 technology
- 374 × 446 pixels for the 42 mm model
- 416 × 496 pixels for the 46 mm model
- 326 ppi for both sizes
- Refresh rate down to 1 Hz
- Up to 2,000 nits peak brightness
- Down to 1 nit minimum brightness
- Ceramic Shield 2 for aluminum
- Sapphire crystal for titanium and ceramic
LTPO3 technology enables a refresh rate of just 1 Hz. This allows information to remain permanently visible on the always-on display without unnecessarily increasing energy consumption.
With up to 2,000 nits of brightness, the display remains easily readable even outdoors. In dark environments, the brightness can be reduced to as low as 1 nit. This is particularly convenient at night or during sleep tracking.
Performance
The Apple Watch Series 12 uses the new S11 chip. It combines a 64-bit dual-core processor with a 4-core Neural Engine. 64 GB of storage is available for apps, music, and other locally stored content.
