Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 passes durability test
The Galaxy Z Fold7 passed the test, now it’s the turn of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 to pass JerryRigEverything‘s durability test. Last year, its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip6, survived the dreaded bending test. Can the 2025 model repeat this success despite being thinner?
First, the scratch test. No surprises here – the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for the new and improved display and back. Light scratches are visible from level 6 and deeper grooves from level 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Unfortunately, the inner display scratched very easily in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 test, even from relatively soft objects. This is still the weak point of modern foldables – the inner folding displays can only achieve a certain rigidity due to their design, otherwise they would no longer be foldable. We saw exactly the same result in the Galaxy Z Fold7 test.

Like last year, Samsung is advertising the Galaxy Z Flip7 with an IP48 protection rating. This means it is waterproof and protected against large particles (approximately 1 mm in size). Dust and sand contain a mixture of different sized particles. Those under 1 mm therefore get into the hinge. The Galaxy smartphone, however, appears to continue to function perfectly despite some disturbing noises from the hinge.
Finally, as usual, comes the bending test. Samsung may have made the Galaxy Z Flip7 slimmer. Nevertheless, the flip phone passes the bending test and can still be folded as usual afterwards. Therefore, caution is advised with the inner display, but otherwise, the Z foldables can withstand similar impacts as regular smartphones.
