Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge drop test doesn’t end well

At just 5.8 mm, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is the Korean company’s thinnest smartphone to date. However, its slim profile naturally raises questions about durability. A drop test by PBKreviews shows that the smartphone can withstand some drops and scratches, but not as well as its more robust siblings.
The display of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge made of Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 cracked after the first drop, but was still functional. The titanium frame sustains a few scratches during subsequent drops, but has not yet suffered any structural damage.

But after the third fall, the time has come: The Victus 2’s glass back breaks and the main camera sensor is damaged. Apart from that, the Galaxy smartphone remains fully functional.

Samsung describes the Galaxy S25 Edge as “more than a design milestone,” but also as a solution to long-standing problems in smartphone development. The company described the innovations in an article that made it possible to accommodate a Snapdragon 8 Elite and a 200 MP camera in a smartphone that is only 5.8 mm thick and weighs 163 g.


The case consists of a robust titanium frame, similar to that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The 6.7-inch LTPO display on the front is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 (currently available exclusively for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge), while the back is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

But the innovation begins inside. Samsung had to develop a new assembly system for the smartphone’s internal structure to place components with a precision of 0.1 mm. Several prototypes were developed until the design was perfect.


The engineers were able to reduce the thickness of the 200 MP camera by optimizing autofocus and optical image stabilization by more than 10 %. The two -layer camera housing contributes to the lower module height.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, like all other models in the S25 series, is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor.
However, the thin frame makes cooling more difficult. Therefore, Samsung has introduced a larger vapor chamber (10% larger than the Galaxy S25+) and a perforated design.
This is a large cutout in the smartphone’s metal frame that allows for a more direct connection between the chipset and the vapor chamber. Additionally, a special thermal paste is used to dissipate heat from other components.
