The upcoming foldable Apple iPhone Ultra will likely support MagSafe charging, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in an interview with Tom’s Guide. There’s also a new leak regarding the Apple Foldable and Apple Pencil.

Apple iPhone Fold with MagSafe

“Everything I’ve heard indicates that MagSafe will also be available for this foldable smartphone. They already managed to do it with the iPhone Air, and I see no reason why they couldn’t do it with the foldable smartphone as well,” Gurman said.

The omission of MagSafe was plausible, as the Apple iPhone Ultra is reportedly extremely thin, measuring only 4.5 mm when open. The device doesn’t offer enough space for the hardware of a Face ID camera and is rumored to use Touch ID instead.

Gurman summarized some other rumors about the Apple iPhone Ultra:

  • Price: over US$2000
  • 5.5-inch external display (when closed)
  • 7.8-inch internal display (when unfolded)
  • Short and wide passport-style design
  • Latest Apple modem (probably C2)
  • Latest Apple chip (A20 Pro)
  • Wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle camera lenses
  • No telephoto lens
  • Robust hinge, minimal but not invisible crease.
  • Apple has gone to great lengths to design apps that automatically adapt to different screen sizes.

The Apple iPhone Ultra will be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models at the “Surprise and Shine” event on Wednesday, September 9. Although rumors circulated that the release of the foldable iPhone might be delayed and arrive after the iPhone 18 Pro models, Gurman said he would be “very surprised” if the foldable iPhone didn’t launch at the same time as the Pro iPhones or “very soon after.”

“Either on the same launch date, with a double launch, or within a few weeks later. I consider the idea of a launch at the end of October or November, with massive delays and supply chain problems, unlikely,” he said.

Apple Pencil for the iPhone Ultra was tested

Furthermore, according to Gurman, Apple internally developed and tested a prototype Apple Pencil for the upcoming foldable iPhone and considered its market launch. However, he believes it is unlikely that the accessory will actually be released. In his newsletter “Power On,” he explained that the Apple Pencil tested for the foldable iPhone was shorter than the versions for iPads.

He also stated that the Pencil for the Apple iPhone Fold is designed to magnetically attach to the side of the device and be charged there. Steve Jobs famously mocked smartphone styluses when he introduced the first iPhone in 2007.

Last week, the Apple iPhone Ultra already appeared in a video featuring the most accurate dummy models to date and in a leak in red.
