Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra run on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipsets
Qualcomm and Samsung have published a new post on Instagram confirming that the upcoming foldable Galaxy Z smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra, will be equipped with the specially designed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. However, there is one limitation.
Initially, no smartphone is visible in the video – only its outline. The aspect ratio suggests that it is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, also known as the Z Fold Wide. When unfolded, it has a 4:3 display. When closed, it is not as tall and narrow as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra with Snapdragon, Z Flip8 with Exynos 2600
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra will both be equipped with a Snapdragon chip, while the Galaxy Z Flip8 in Europe and South Korea will use an Exynos 2600. However, the Z Flip8 is expected to use a Snapdragon chip in all other countries. Presumably, this will be the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 found in the Galaxy models.
The regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has two Oryon cores clocked at 4.61 GHz and an Adreno 840 GPU at 1.2 GHz. The “for Galaxy” variant increases these values to 4.74 GHz for the CPU cores and 1.3 GHz for the GPU. Essentially, it’s a higher-end version of the same chip.
We’ve already seen this chip in the Galaxy S26 Ultra and in the S26 and S26+ in select regions worldwide. Like the Z Flip 8, these two models also use the Exynos 2600 in Europe and South Korea, as well as in India.
The new Z-Foldables are scheduled to be unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22nd in London. Prices for Europe and prices for South Korea have recently surfaced in leaks.
