At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this week, Samsung revealed further details about its upcoming smart glasses. The Samsung Galaxy Glasses will be equipped with a camera positioned at eye level.

Of course, the Samsung Galaxy Glasses can be connected to your smartphone. Jay KimSamsung’s Executive Vice President of Mobile Business told CNBC: “Everyone is talking about what AI device is coming next, and I’ve looked at many different types of devices. Glasses are clearly one of them, and everyone is watching them closely.”

Samsung Galaxy Glasses provide image data for AI

Kim added that it was important for the AI to understand what one was looking at so that it could “pass the information on to the mobile phone and then process it and actually provide you with a lot of information”.

Kim refused to say directly that the Galaxy Glasses will not have a display. However, he mentioned that Samsung will have other products such as Galaxy smartwatches and Galaxy smartphones available if a user needs a display. This practically confirms that the glasses will not have one.

Kim says the Samsung Galaxy Glasses could be released this year. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon was more optimistic about smart glasses, and replied: “They are close to our eyes, close to our ears, close to our mouth; we will experience completely new things and workflows as a result.”
