Rumors suggest that the first Apple iPhone Fold will be released this year. It is said to feature a wide inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has now published new details about the software of the upcoming foldable iPhone.

According to Gurman, the upcoming Apple iPhone Fold will bring several iOS improvements, including multitasking features inspired by iPadOS.

According to reports, the foldable device will support “iPad-like layouts” and the simultaneous display of apps. Furthermore, it is reported that the inner screen will be roughly the size of an iPad mini. This will prompt Apple to develop new iOS app layouts and navigation elements, such as iPad-style sidebars.

However, the Apple iPhone Fold does not support multitasking in windowed mode like the iPad and it also cannot run iPad apps. Despite the larger display and tablet-like user interface, the foldable device will still run iOS. Gurman notes that it will offer simpler multitasking features instead of the full, desktop-like interface of iPadOS 26.

According to reports, the Apple iPhone Fold will use a new display technology that significantly reduces the crease on the inner screen while simultaneously improving durability. The device is also expected to feature a punch-hole camera in the outer display.

The foldable smartphone is also expected to feature a dual rear camera, a punch-hole camera in the inner display, and a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button. According to a recent rumor, Apple could market its first foldable smartphone as iPhone Ultra.

Apple iPhone Fold to rival the crease-free Oppo Find N6 display

The Oppo Find N6 is scheduled to launch on March 17th with a foldable display without creases. An insider now claims that a similar display technology could also be used in Apple’s first foldable iPhone. According to the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station the Apple iPhone Fold could have a crease-free display, similar to that of the upcoming Oppo Find N6.

In a post on Weibo, DCS pointed out that several suppliers working with Oppo on the new display also provide components to Apple. Therefore, it’s possible that the company’s first foldable iPhone could use similar display technology.

According to a recent leak, the foldable’s display could have a crease of less than 0.15 mm. While this wouldn’t make it completely crease-free, such a flat crease line would still be a significant improvement over many other current foldables.

The Apple iPhone Fold is expected to be released in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series. It is said to have a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.49-inch external display.
